The Gulf Coast Transformation Fellowship evolved from the New Voices Fellowship which began in 1999 to create meaningful career opportunities for emerging leaders and to build the capacity of small nonprofit organizations. Program Associates at the Ford Foundation envisioned the program and Ford has provided critical financial support over the years. After 7 cohorts of fellows working throughout the country and several global sites, New Voices and Ford leadership responded to Hurricane Katrina by focusing the fellowship on the needs of the Gulf Coast region. The first cohort of Gulf Coast Fellows convened in June of 2007.
The application form is available for individuals interested in joining the next cohort of the DC Neighborhood College. Housed within George Washington University’s Center for Excellence in Public Leadership, DC Neighborhood College provides skill training and learning opportunities for District residents who are committed to strengthening the region’s civic infrastructure at the grassroots level. The pending application process will identify the third cycle since 2004, when community leaders with the former DC Agenda conceptualized and implemented the program. Each month, participants meet for 2 evening sessions and one full day session. A sampling of 2006-2007 session themes follows: How the District of Columbia Government Works, Health Issues in the District, Managing Money with Integrity, and Public Speaking and Presenting for Impact. The application is due by Friday, January 4, 2008. View the application now.
