The Hill-Snowdon Foundation is proud to release our fall 2007 grants list. A total of 37 grants worth $840,000 were awarded across our 3 major Program Areas: Youth Organizing (18), Economic Justice (14), and the Fund for DC (5). With the exception of 2 organizations, the grants awarded were renewals. The geographic dispersion of these grants included 11 states (California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, New Mexico, New York, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin), the District of Columbia as well as Navajo and Hopi Nations (Arizona).
The Foundation offered spring and fall cycles for the first time in 2007. Previously, the Foundation awarded grants once per year usually in either November or December. With increased flexibility gained through the additional grant cycle, Foundation staff and board members hope to position ourselves to be more responsive to our grassroots partners in 2008 and beyond.
In addition, the Foundation’s Special Grants program awarded 86 grants which amounted to $369,252. The Special Grants category encompasses several smaller, yet distinct and important Foundation giving strategies, including Board Discretionary Grants (35), Capacity-Building and Opportunity Fund (24), Employee Matching Grants (21), Partnership Grants (3), Post-Katrina Organizing for Equitable Development Fund (5), Rapid Response Fund (2) and other grants (1).
