Los Angeles Youth March for Respect

This month, Youth Justice Coalition (YJC) members and supporters will march 50 miles over 4 days (December 16th-19th, 2007) to raise awareness about the impact of juvenile detention and incarceration on individual youth and whole communities. Participants will meet and speak with elected officials, law enforcement representatives and former gang members along the way. After a day’s rest, marchers and their supporters will convene and rally on Friday, December 21st for an end to the practice of sentencing young people to life without the possibility of parole. An HSF partner since 2004, YJC provides know your rights sessions, life skills training, and campaign organizing opportunities for youth who have experienced the Los Angeles County Juvenile Justice system through arrest, detention, incarceration, probation and/or parole. YJC serves as an important bridge between these young leaders, their parents, the criminal justice system, and the larger community. If you are interested in joining the march, call (323) 327-1259 for organizers’ exact location of the march. Click here for more information.
